Poster Trial 2: Coincidence or guiltiness?
Los Acusados: Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010).
Iron Man is back! And he ain’t alone…
Movie-goers and fans can officially start to feel excited for the eventually, sure-to-be massive money-maker and biggest blockbuster of next summer. We’re of course talking about the sequel to the Marvel Studios’ hit of 2008, which satisfyingly achieved to introduce a new character from the lengthy roster of the comic powerhouse, Iron Man, arguably the best comic book movie ever made, going neck to neck with the critically acclaimed The Dark Knight (2008).
Tony Stark: «Well, the truth is………………I’m Iron Man.» Then, credits roll. That’s where we were left last time around if we discount that very last post-credits scene with Nick Fury hinting at the Avengers. Being a first-timer, Iron Man (2008) suceeded not only in box office grosses, but in telling a compelling, witty and charming origin story which would set, and raise, the bar for the following films of the newly-founded Studios, such as The Incredible Hulk (2008), which was released a month later and had a generally warming reception, both critically and commercially, barely outgrossing the previous Hulk (2003).
But one of the key factors in Marvel’s success with this new line-up that also includes the Branagh-helmed epic Thor (2011) -more on that one on an upcoming post- and Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America (2011), is the masterplan of getting all those superheroes to gather and team-up for the superanticipated blockbuster (and probably the biggest film of its genre), The Avengers (2012), which currently has no one attached to direct. The script is right now being written by none other than Zack Penn, co-writer of the desastrous X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). But let’s not think about that, shall we?
Instead, let’s take a look at what I’m starting to call my first Christmas present (you’re welcome to feel the same). Just answer, what’s better than a trip to Australia, or a 5-week staying at the luxuriest hotel in the world? This glourious one-sheet official poster for Iron Man 2 (2010), featuring two big armoured warriors. Behold!
That’s right! Iron Man gracefully returns to the silver screen next summer and this time there ain’t an Indy or a Joker to stop him. And yes, that’s War Machine posing back to back with Ol’ Shellhead. It’s only one of the many new things the film will show, and definitely one that’s keeping fans anxious for. It’s a great poster, it has that feeling of awesomeness and the colors and brightness are really cool. Wow, now that’d look so sweet on my wall…….
The sequel will see Stark dealing with the consequences of publicly revealing his identity as the eponymous superhero, while the government demands him to turn over all the weaponry of the suit, which will eventually lead Rhodey to step in and take care of the situation donning the gray and bad-ass War Machine armor. The question is, will he be seen as a threat or will we see both friends kicking ass together against the villainous Whiplash? We don’t know, but we’re hoping it to be both.
The truth is that, with a stellar cast and lots of action (as promised), everyone is pretty much waiting already for this film to arrive. Well, maybe Terrence Howard isn’t. 🙂 Directed again by Jon Favreau, Iron Man 2 stars Robert Downey Jr as titular character and our hero, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Don Cheadle as militar and Tony’s best friend, Col. James Rhodes/War Machine, Gwyneth Paltrow as the new Stark Industries’ CEO, Pepper Potts, Scarlett Johansson as Tony’s new personal assistant and double agent Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Mickey Rourke as new bad guy, the Russian Ivan Vanko/Whiplash, Sam Rockwell as businessman rival Justin Hammer, Clark Gregg as SHIELD agent Phil Coulson, and of course, Samuel L. Jackson as SHIELD director Nick Fury, who will be getting more screen time.
Now, before we finish, I’ve got here a little bonus. Considering that you’re likely wondering if one of the two iron soldiers will get overshadowed by the other, who is really the most beloved of them? Yes, are you Team Tony, whose charming prescence is enough to like him, or are you Team Rhodey, whose errrr, seriousness and suit’s coolness warrants a vote for him? Let’s choose sides!!!
Iron Man 2 then, blasts onto theaters everywhere on May 7th, 2010, and here on Mexico, on April 30th. We can’t wait. More new pics after the jump. Oh, and did I mention there might be a trailer released with Downey-starring Sherlock Holmes, which opens (in USA) on Dec. 25th? Now that’d be an awesome Christmas present….
Hey, there’s our hero!
Hey, there he is again, but we ignore what he’s doing…
Hey, someone’s obssesed ‘bout him…
Now, that looks gooooooooooood…. 🙂
Poster Trial: Coincidence or guiltiness?
Los Acusados: The Others (2001), Case 39 (2009), 100 Feet (2008).
